A Legacy of Compassion Continues

The Dr. C. Tom Carter Memorial Scholarship

Augusta Health Foundation is proud to honor the enduring legacy of Dr. C. Tom Carter through the Dr. C. Tom Carter Memorial Scholarship—an initiative dedicated to supporting the next generation of compassionate healthcare professionals.

Dr. Carter believed that healthcare extended far beyond clinical practice. His approach was rooted in kindness, humility, and a deep commitment to serving others—values he demonstrated throughout his many years as a physician at Augusta Health. Today, those same principles continue to guide and inspire the work of Augusta Health team members.

The scholarship provides meaningful support to Augusta Health team members pursuing educational and professional growth, engaging in service both locally and globally, and strengthening the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care. By investing in caregivers, the fund helps ensure that compassion remains at the heart of healthcare across our community.

Through the generosity of donors, Dr. Carter’s legacy lives on—not only in memory, but in action—empowering caregivers to lead with purpose and continue delivering exceptional care for years to come.

Good News for Donors: New Charitable Giving Rules

New tax laws make it easier for every household to get tax benefits for donations.

What You Need to Know

  • Beginning in 2026, when you make a donation to support the health of our communities, you can receive tax benefits — without itemizing — up to $1,000 for individuals or $2,000 for couples. To qualify, make your check payable to:

Augusta Health

  • If you itemize, you may still deduct your gifts. Consult your tax professional for information about new limits on your deductions.
  • If you’re over 70½, you can contribute from an IRA (called a Qualified Charitable Distribution) to Augusta Health and reduce your taxable income. Consult your tax professional for specific rules.

What this Means for You

New tax rules allow you to receive a tax benefit for your charitable giving, making it possible to support the causes you care about while also reducing your taxable income.
